KUALA LUMPUR: A group has rejected an offer from police to hold a planned rally at a stadium on March 7, and will proceed with their planned venue in front of a popular shopping mall here.
"We met and discussed with the police and they suggested an alternative venue. We have decided to have it at Sogo and there will be no changes," said Mandeep Singh, who is part of the "Kita Lawan" group during a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Hokkien Association Building here.
Mandeep said 50 other organisations had pledged to participate in the gathering, with more expected.
On Friday, police said the rally was a no-go after the group met them to get permission to hold the rally at Sogo.
Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Zainol Samah warned the public from participating in the rally as it was illegal. He said the organisers had yet to submit any application for the rally.
