LANGKAWI: The 13th edition of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) exhibition commenced in high spirits with an opening flypast by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).
The Airbus A400M made a special appearance alongside other RMAF assets like the F/A-18 Hornet and SU-30 MKM.
All 10 Defence Ministers of Asean countries were in attendance and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who opened the biennial event, described it as a "remarkable achievement".
Noting that it was "the best ever LIMA we had", he added that LIMA had grown over the years with 512 exhibitors this year compared with 433 in the last event in 2013.
"Of these, 266 are local exhibitors. There are 65 ships and 110 planes participating too," he added.
Najib also said 63 countries were participating in the event.
Also present at the opening was former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
