Bukit Aman: Fake news report on RM100 notes an ‘act of malice’

PETALING JAYA: Bukit Aman has refuted a rumour circulating on social media that police would arrest individuals for spreading pictures of false RM100 notes.
Social media users on Thursday shared photos of an online news portal report quoting Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar as saying that “those spreading false RM100 note (sic) in whatsapp (sic) will be arrested!”.
Inspector-General of Police Secretariat assistant head (Corporate Communications) Asst Comm Datin Asmawati Ahmad confirmed that the photo was indeed doctored and that the rumour was untrue.
“This is a deliberate act of malice and done by someone who is irresponsible, immature and spiteful.
“Both the IGP and The Malay Mail are victims of malicious intent, aimed at causing harm to their reputation and credibility,” she said in a statement on Thursday.
ACP Asmawati added that an editor from the online news portal had also confirmed that the photo was doctored.
