PETALING JAYA: The BRT-Sunway Line, the country’s first 5.4km bus rapid transit (BRT) public transport network, is near completion and is expected to be operational by early June this year, according to Prasarana Malaysia Bhd group chairman Tan Sri Ismail Adam.
The line costs RM634mil and is 70% funded by Prasarana, 15% by Sunway Bhd and 15% by the Government’s public-private partnership (PPP) facilitation fund called UKAS.
The dedicated elevated bus guideway using electric buses will connect the Sunway commercial area to the Setia Jaya KTM Komuter station and the soon-to-be completed USJ7 LRT station respectively.
Prasarana aimed to complete the construction of the BRT-Sunway Line by May, Ismail said at a press tour of the facility yesterday. Also present was Prasarana group managing director Azmi Abdul Aziz.
“We expect 500,000 people to benefit and it provides connectivity to over 30,000 students,” he said.
The BRT-Sunway Line will be serviced by 15 electric buses with an average travelling speed of 30kph-40kph and top speed of 80kph and a capacity of 67 passengers (25 seated).
The electric bus will not have any emission, can operate for 12 hours before the next charging cycle with a range of 250km or 23 trips per day.
There are seven stations along the 5.4km route located at Leisure Commerce Square (Station 1 – KTM connection), Mentari Business Park (Station 2), Sunway Lagoon (Station 3), Sunway Medical Centre (Station 4), Monash University (Station 5 – BRT Complex Depot Park and Ride facility), Sunway Machinery (Station 6) and USJ7 (Station 7 – LRT connection).
The park and ride facility at Station 5 will have a total of 1,153 parking bays with 23 bays for the disabled and 121 bays for motorcycles.
The complex depot will have facilities to park and charge the buses, bus maintenance, operations office, operations control centre and a security control centre.
