LANGKAWI: A senior citizen who witnessed a plane involved in a mid-air collision crashing into his sons' houses has been admitted into Langkawi Hospital due to psychological trauma.
Abu Mutalib Said, 70, was 10 metres away from his sons' houses at Kampung Gelam here, when one of two Indonesian Air Force Jupiter Aerobatic Team aircraft crashed into them.
His sons, Zulkeflee, 46 and Mohd Rashidi, 40, were not in their houses at the time.
Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (Lima) 2015 consultant and emergency medicine specialist Prof Datuk Seri Dr Abu Hassan Asaari Abdullah said Abu Mutalib was traumatised and delirious after the incident.
"The victim watched a part of the aircraft falling onto his sons' homes before bursting into flames. He is now in a serious trauma," he said.
He said Abu Mutalib was rushed to the hospital and treated for 'critical incident stress management' (CISM).
"CISM treatment includes a breathing relaxation therapy to reduce the  aggravation. He is sleeping at the moment and thankfully, he suffered no physical injuries," he said.
He said the medical team from the emergency unit would also provide counselling to Abu Mutalib and his family.
The two Jupiter Aerobatic Team aircraft crashed during a practice session in conjunction with the Lima 2015 exhibition at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) here at 2.04pm Sunday.
The accident occurred when six KT-1B aircraft were crossing the MIEC air space before two of them collided in the air.
Five aerobatic teams, including the Indonesian team will be performing aerobatic displays during the exhibition from March 17 until March 21. - Bernama
