Mamak Gang Boss Likely Killed in Shootout in Taman Melawati (VIDEO)

Cops: Mamak gang boss likely killed

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have shot two wanted men, believed to be members of the notorious Mamak Gang, killing one and injuring the other.
According to the police, the dead man could be the mastermind of the notorious gang that is responsible for many robberies in Selangor.
Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah said two police teams spotted the men in a car with fake licence plates at an open air car park at Taman Melawati at 1.50pm yesterday.
Police tried to block the car with their vehicles.
“They tried to escape by ramming their car into ours, but could not get away.
“Then, one of my men got out to get closer. That was when one of the two opened fire,” SAC Mohd Adnan said when met at the scene yesterday.
He said police returned fire and one of the men, aged 59, was killed in the shootout.
The other man, aged 32, was hit in the hip and was sent to the Ampang Hospital for treatment.
SAC Mohd Adnan said the policeman, who was the first to get out of the car, suffered light injuries to both his hands and was treated at a nearby hospital.
Police found a revolver, seven machetes, an axe, a knife, a pair of bolt cutters, fake licence plates, ski masks, gloves and police vests in the car.
“We believe they are part of the Mamak Gang and the deceased, due to his age, could be the mastermind, but we are still investigating,” he said.
SAC Mohd Adnan said the dead man had a record of 24 criminal cases involving robberies and house and car break-ins.
“Following this incident, we believe that we have solved many robbery cases in Selangor and the rest of the country,” he said.
Police are still tracking several remaining members of the Mamak Gang.
