Flight stewardess wows judges with her confidence at harvest beauty queen contest

KUALA LUMPUR: Sabahans gathered at the Flamingo Hotel in Ampang recently to celebrate Kaamatan, a rice harvest festival.
More than 300 people joined in the festivities organised by the Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA Klang Valley).
The celebration themed “culture foundation of peace and friendship”, marked its 19th year and was launched by Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.
Ongkili, who is also the association adviser, mingled with the crowd and serenaded two songs. He also performed the Sumazau to the delight of the crowd.
The highlight of the event was the Unduk Ngadau (harvest beauty queen contest).
Maylesthelyn Ley Matius, an air stewardess with Malindo Air, won the Unduk Ngadau competition. Her confidence throughout the contest was enough to woo the judges.
The 24-year-old will represent KDCA in the national-level Unduk Ngadau pageant in Sabah. She also won RM1,600 in cash and a return air flight ticket from Kuala Lumpur to Bali.
Shellenni Madawal who is pursuing her studies in UiTM was the first runner-up.
Twenty-one-year-old Universiti Malaya student Cassandra Devi Jeremiah was second runner-up.
In the Sugandoi (singing) competition, physiotherapist Becker Ray Benedict impressed the judges with his voice and song choice, as he beat five other contestants to win the contest.
