PETALING JAYA: Two men were shot by police after they tried to ram the vehicle into a policeman in a bid to flee a spot check.
It is believed that police stopped the men on Friday as they were behaving suspiciously near a stolen Honda Civic that was parked along Jalan PJS 7/9 here.
Police had earlier discovered the stolen Honda on Thursday afternoon.
Following the discovery, the Subang Jaya district station’s Special Investigation division (D9) unit formed a task force to track down the culprits behind the car theft.
On Friday, a Toyota Vios driven by two men stopped 80m from where the Honda Civic was parked.
Police then stopped the car and requested to perform a spot check on the men.
As one of the officers, identified only as Kpl Zariezie, approached the car to introduce himself, the driver sped towards him but only managed to ram into a police car.
Kpl Zariezie fired two warning shots into the air but the driver continued ramming into the police car in a bid to flee the scene.
Another police car came from behind to stop the two suspects from getting away.
One officer reportedly fired a shot at the driver, stopping the car in its tracks.
The driver alighted from the Vios and swung a parang at the officers in a bid to escape, but was soon disarmed and arrested by the officers.
A check by the police revealed the Vios had also been reported stolen.
It is learnt that the driver, 28-year-old P. Jsilan, had a previous record of armed robbery. He was shot in both his legs.
Police were unable to find any documents on the passenger, in his 30s, and have yet to identify him. He had gun shot wounds to his neck and right arm.
The forensic team combed the area for evidence, while both suspects were sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for treatment pending further action from the police.
Police retrieved a parang from the scene and eight Erimin pills from Jsilan’s wallet.
Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Ramli confirmed receiving a report on the incident.
