Mum and friend held over toddler's death

KOTA KINABALU: Police have arrested a mother in connection with the death of her two-year-old daughter.
They have also detained her 29-year-old friend.
Both women had come with the child on Feb 28 to the district hospital in Tuaran, about 28km from here, claiming that the little girl was sick.
However, the child was already dead when the mother brought her there.
Doctors noticed bruise marks on her body and called the police, who detained the women for questioning.
Tuaran OCPD Deputy Supt Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek said the 21-year-old mother and her friend were detained for suspected child abuse that led to the girl’s death.
Both women were being detained under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, said DSP Abdul Fuad.
He said that the police were waiting for the post-mortem report.
“Our investigations are focused on events that led to the child’s death.
“Until then, we cannot disclose anything else,” he said.
