KOTA BARU: A man who suspected that his wife was having an affair doused her with petrol and set her on fire after beating her up outside their home here.
The 30-year-old saleswoman suffered severe burns on her face and hands in the 11.30am incident on Sunday. She had been admitted to the intensive care unit of Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital.
Police are looking for her 44-year-old husband.
District deputy chief Supt Idris Rafar said the suspect fled their home in Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra after three of her brothers arrived to prevent the suspect from further hurting their sister. The brothers took her to the hospital.
Supt Idris said the suspect was being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
Meanwhile, a magistrate lost her handbag to snatch thieves at the parking lot of a fast food centre in Kok Lanas here at 4pm on Sunday.
The 31-year-old lost her handphone, credit cards and RM340 to the duo who sped off in a black Honda Accord towards Machang.
