KOTA BARU: Police detained a private school teacher for the possession of seven fake pistols here on Friday.
The pistols, bought from Thailand were believed to be for sale on the internet.
Kota Baru District deputy police chief Supt Idris Abd Rafar said the 26-year-old man was detained in a vehicle in Jalan Pasir Mas-Salor in front of a sundry shop at 1.30pm after a tip off.
"We found seven boxes with the writing G.29 AIRSOFT GUN. Each contained a pistol with a black magazine hidden in the boot of the car," he told reporters at the Kota Baru District Headquarters on Saturday.
He said preliminary investigation revealed that the pistols were bought for RM60 each and were believed to be intended for sale on Facebook.
"The pistols were bought in Sungai Golok, Thailand and the suspect used a middleman believed to be a Thai, to obtain the pistols," he added.
The suspect was remanded for four days from Saturday. The case is being investigated under Section 36(1) of the Firearms Act 1960 which provides for a one-year jail or fine of up to RM5,000, or both, Idris added. - Bernama
