JOHOR BAHRU: The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar called on Malaysians to give Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim a chance to prove himself.
His Majesty said, it is impossible for Anwar to be able to make sudden changes within one year.
"I don't think you can change countries in one year.
"I think (the Unity Government) has a good minister like (Transportation Minister) Anthony Loke Siew Fook," he said in an interview with The Straits Times Singapore .
Sultan Ibrahim also expects that there will be no problem working with Anwar because he has a close relationship with the Prime Minister.
His Majesty said, Anwar sometimes calls him for advice, even in the middle of the night.
"I will support the government, but if I think they are doing something inappropriate, I will tell them," he said.
On October 27, Sultan Ibrahim was elected as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The Keeper of the Kings' Great Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad said, His Majesty's appointment for five years will come into force on 31 January 2024.
The Council of Rulers also agreed to declare the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah as Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong for five years starting from the same date.
Sultan Ibrahim replaced Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah from Pahang who served as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
His Majesty ascended the throne as Yang di-Pertuan Agong for five years, starting on January 31, 2019.
