RIYADH: Malaysia realizes and expects that there will be a reaction from some Western countries regarding its volume in voicing the Palestinian issue, but it will continue to fight for the fate of the Palestinian people at the international level.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he had no choice regarding the matter because the Palestinian issue involves a humanitarian issue as its people continue to suffer due to the oppression and tyranny of the Israeli Zionist regime.

"Yes...(I know) there are many risks. I have no choice (regarding this matter because) there are murders involving the lives of children and women.

"However, I am not worried (about the response) because there is a common opinion from all countries (ASEAN and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). There is a consensus on humanitarian issues in Gaza," he told Malaysian media at the end of his visit to Saudi Arabia on Saturday

Anwar said in addition to bringing the conflict between Palestine and Israel to the stage of the First ASEAN-GCC Summit, he also discussed the matter personally with the leaders of several ASEAN countries, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman, King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa, President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi.

"We don't want to be alone...Putrajaya has already stated his position. I believe all countries need to agree to find a solution regarding the plight of the Palestinian people," he said when asked if Malaysia would take Israel to the International Criminal Court for the atrocities it committed against Palestine.

The Prime Minister said that the insistence to stop Israel's tyranny needs to be implemented following the current situation in Gaza and he cannot ignore his responsibility as a Muslim regarding the issue.

According to him, pressure needs to be continued because of the reluctance of some European countries to voice their objections so that the ongoing violence in Gaza needs to stop.

"If it's not stopped, the tempias will have serious consequences in terms of regional security. We need to encourage the involvement of other countries.

"Our concern is the humanitarian factor and the misery faced by the people in Palestine Gaza... (this is an attempt to) paralyze all life there.

"This can invite fanaticism and terrorists. If they are pressured in such a way that they are lifeless, the choice they have is to fight or die and they choose to continue fighting," he said.

Anwar said he will continue to speak out on the Palestinian issue in the name of humanity and peace with the world.
