Shouts of “Daulat Tuanku” greeted The Sultan of Johor as he returned home after his election as Malaysia’s 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong

 JUBILATION IN JOHOR AS SULTAN IBRAHIM RETURNS AFTER BEING NAMED THE NEXT AGONG


Spontaneous shouts of “Daulat Tuanku” went up as HM The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar returned home today (28 Oct) after his election as Malaysia’s 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong by the Conference of Rulers at Istana Negara on Friday (27th October). 


Thousands of people from all walks of life lined several sections of the route from Senai Airport to welcome home the King-designate. 


They included Johor politicians, State Civil Servants, students, Southern Volunteers and ordinary Johoreans. 


They let off loud shouts of “Daulat Tuanku” and unfurled banners emblazoned with the words “Menjunjung Tahniah Tuanku (Congratulations Tuanku) as the royal motorcade made its way out of the Royal Hangar at Senai Airport.   


HM Sultan Ibrahim, who was personally driving the limousine, wound down his window to wave to the masses to acknowledge their warm greetings. 


The atmosphere was one of jubilation and great joy on the impending ascension of His Majesty as the new incoming Agong.


From the airport, His Majesty drove to Istana Bukit Serene where HM The Permaisuri of Johor, Raja Zarith Sofiah Binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah gave him a tight embrace and congratulated him. 


Earlier on arrival at the Royal Hangar, His Majesty was warmly welcomed by HRH Major General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, The Crown Prince of Johor, and his younger Princes.


At a special meeting of the Conference of Rulers held at Istana Negara on Friday (27th October), HM Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, 65, was unanimously elected to become the 17th King of Malaysia.


He will succeed Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, the Sultan of Pahang, whose five-year term will officially end on 30th January 2024.


It has been 39 years since Almarhum Sultan Iskandar was proclaimed as Malaysia’s 8th King in 1984.
