Unity Government Survives PN's "Gelombang Hijau" Retaining Selangor by Winning 34 Seats while Securing 2/3 Majority in Penang and Negeri Sembilan.

PN's "Gelombang Hijau" or Green Wave phenomena that took the Northern Malaysian states by storm in PRU 15 has not stopped as seen from the PRN Results last night.

PN won all 32 seats in Terengganu, 43 of 45 Seats in Kelantan and 33 of 36 Seat in Kedah.

The Unity Government suffered heavy losses in Kedah, expectations were high that they would do well. In Sports their loss in the North would be called a thrashing!

PN tightened their grip in Kelantan and Terengganu. Despite losing only two seats out of 45 in Kelantan, Kelantan remains an impenetrable fortress.

In Terengganu, PN-PAS showed complete dominance as it made a clean sweep of 32 state seats it contested in the state election, riding on the victories it secured in the 15th General Election. PN in Terengganu used the PAS logo and made a clean sweep of the seats winning most with a higher majority. For the first time there will be no opposition in Terengganu.

As BN suffered heavy losses,  PN made big gains in Selangor, and Penang winning 22 and 11 seats respectively.

Selangor PH-BN lost its two-thirds majority in the State Assembly due to the strong showing from PN. BN Selangor Chief Megat Zulkarnain Omardin's shock loss to PN’s Hilman Idham in Gombak Setia by just 58 votes kind of summed it all up as the race was very close and intense. Hilman  got 30,299 votes, while Megat Zulkarnain 30,241 and Mohamed Salim, 1,076 undi.

PN even managed to win 5 seats in Negeri Sembilan.

Overall Perikatan Nasional won 146 seats from the 245 contested (60%) getting 3,382,455 or 49.3% of the votes cast last Saturday.

Of the 146 seats, 48% of them or 71 seats had previously been held by PH-BN prior to the state elections.

PH-BN managed to win 3,399,472 or 49.58% of the votes cast.

ELECTION DEPOSITS

All Muda candidates, PSM, and 39 of 41other independent candidates - including five affiliated members of Bersatu and 11 Gerakan candidates - lost their deposit. Election candidates must obtain at least 12.5 percent of the vote in order not to lose their deposit. Two DAP rebels in Penang, David Marshel and Satees Muniandy, also lost their deposits.

FEMALE CANDIDATES

Only 24 out of the 71 female candidates who competed in the State Elections (PRN) in the six states, won their seat. 15 of the 26 PH female candidates who contested won their seat.  Barisan Nasional (BN) put 12 female candidates, but only won one, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) female candidates won eight out of the 19 seats contested.

LOW VOTER TURNOUT

The low voter turnout could be used as an excuse for the PH and BN's poor performance.

A total 70.1 per cent or 6.86 million eligible voters in the six states cast their ballots in Saturday's poll.

On a positive note, one could say that the Unity Government in Selangor managed to stop the PN'S Green Wave from winning in Selangor.

BN-PH have to come up with a new strategy for the future elections to stop PN's "Gelombang Hijau".

The warning signs are very clear.
