Slow to deliver drinks, two workers attacked by a drunken man

Because the drinks orders were slow to be delivered, a man believed to be drunk beat up a woman stall owner using a helmet and a coat in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, early Saturday morning.

Sentul District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said the incident happened at about 6am when the food stall on Jalan Perhentian Haji Salleh was preparing to start business.

"Since the stall had just opened, the stall worker explained that the order could not be placed immediately, causing the suspect to swear.

"The suspect left after his order was received, but returned 30 minutes later and cursed the victim, who is also the owner of the premises, with abusive words.

"The suspect even hit the head of the stall worker in question with a broom," he said in a statement.

According to Sukarno, the victim, who is also a 44-year-old local citizen, then made a police report at 8.03am.

He also said that after making the report at about 8.30 in the morning, the suspect again came to the premises with a friend and attacked the operator and the food stall worker involved.

"The suspect cursed the victim and his employees and damaged the equipment at the stall. The frightened victim immediately called 999.

"A team of patrol car (MPV) members were sent to the scene of the incident and managed to arrest the two suspects in a shop next to the scene of the incident," he said.

Ahmad Sukarno said that the police confiscated several objects believed to be used in the incident, including coats and blue helmets.

He added that a check found that one of the suspects had nine previous criminal records while the other had no record.

"At the time of the incident, the suspect was believed to be under the influence of alcohol.

"Both suspects will be brought to court for a remand application to assist the investigation under Section 324 of the Penal Code (causing injury) and 427 of the Penal Code (treasonous act)," he said.
