Datuk charged with driving a Lamborghini dangerously

KOTA TINGGI: A Lamborghini driver with the title of Datuk was brought before the Magistrate's Court, here on Thursday on charges of dangerous driving on the Senai-Desaru Highway, late last month.

The accused, Lim Thean Seng, 65, however pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out by an interpreter in front of Magistrate Rashidah Baharom.

According to the charges, the elderly man was charged with driving a Lamborghini Huracan Coupe on the road in a manner that was dangerous to the public at Kilometer (KM) 54.4 to KM 55.5 of Jalan Lebuhraya Senai - Desaru, here at about 10 am, last July 29.



The accused was charged in accordance with Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which provides for a prison sentence of not more than five years and not more than RM15,000, if convicted.

In addition, the accused was also faced with the optional charge of driving the luxury vehicle recklessly to the extent that it might cause disaster to someone else at the same location, time and date.

For the charge, he was charged under Section 279 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum prison sentence of six months or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both, if convicted.

The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Ahmad Khairuddin Khalid while the accused was represented by lawyer Mohd Syakirin Syazwan Mohd Nayan.

Before that, the prosecution suggested a bail of RM10,000, but Mohd Syakirin Syazwan asked for a minimum amount because his client had many health complications.

Mohd Syakirin Syazwan said his client, who is a businessman, has diabetes and has had two heart surgeries in addition to having suffered a stroke before.

At the same time, his client had to undergo a monthly health check-up at a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur.

The court then allowed the accused to be bailed at RM7,000 with one surety, in addition to setting next September 5 as the date for re-mention of the case and submission of documents.

On July 31, Johor Police Chief, Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the police opened investigation papers against five Lamborghini drivers who drove dangerously on the Senai-Desaru Highway, Kota Tinggi on July 29.

Meanwhile, the luxury car was also confiscated for further investigation.

A 71-second video recording showing several Lamborghini vehicles cutting dangerously on the Senai-Desaru Highway also went viral on social media earlier.
