Two of the three Umno vice-president posts look set to be filled by Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin, who are leading in the race.
As at 5AM, they have obtained 102 votes and 101 votes respectively.
Titiwangsa Umno chief Datuk Seri Johari Ghani is set to win the third vice presidency slot. He currently has 93 votes.
Tengku Zafrul among the first five UMNO leaders to win a seat on MKT
KUALA LUMPUR: The Minister of International Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, appeared among the first five leaders to cross the victory line as a Member of the Supreme Working Council (MKT) of UMNO in the election that took place yesterday.
As of 5.00 this morning, Zafrul obtained 130 votes out of 189 divisions that convened yesterday, to be in third place and at the same time reserve a position in the 25 positions as UMNO MKT Member contested this time.
It is the first appearance of Zafrul, who is also the Kota Raja Division UMNO Head, participating in the UMNO election competition, since becoming active in politics in 2020.
Also confirming the victory for the UMNO MKT position was the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, who obtained 134 votes from the division, to be in the first position.
Besides Zafrul and Shamsul; Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, also won with 131 votes, Sabah UMNO Relations Chairman, Datuk Seri Bung Mokhtar Radin (124 votes) and UMNO Secretary General, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, 124 votes.
A total of 95 candidates contested the position in this UMNO election.
