History Made! JDT beat Ulsan Hyundai 2-1 With Last Second Own Goal to qualify for Asian Champions League knockout stage

LEANDRO Velazquez celebrates his goal while helping JDT defeat Ulsan Hyundai in the Group I match of the Asian Champions League at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri today. -

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) made history by advancing to the round of 16 of the Asian Champions League (ACL) after beating former ACL champion Ulsan Hyundai 2-1 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, just now.

Even sweeter, the result of the last match of Group I saw Benjamin Mora's squad finish as the group leaders to advance to the knockout round.

Ulsan Hyundai player's own goal, Pang Yong Woo in the last minute of the match saw the Southern Tigers squad manage to grab three valuable points.

Playing at home, JDT almost got an early goal as early as the second minute as a result of the movement of Arif Aiman Hanapi who slipped in from the right wing before feeding the ball to Bergson Da Silva but the opportunity was wasted by the Brazilian-born striker.

Bergson continued to come restless for the opposing team through his nimble movement and managed to win a free kick for the Southern Tigers in a strategic position.

Leandro Velázquez, who was assigned to take the free kick, did the job perfectly after his shot went over the wall and then beat South Korea's national goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-woo in the fifth minute.

The joy of the Southern Tigers camp with the goal did not last long when Hong Myung Bo's squad managed to tie the score 60 seconds later.

The failure of Mathew Davies to remove the ball from the danger zone gave space for Lee Myung Jae to intercept the kick and then feed the ball to Jun Amano who shot hard to beat Farizal Marlias in the sixth minute.

The visitors almost added a goal in the 14th minute with a quick attack but Yun Illok's effort went wide.

Mora's men are seen facing some difficulty playing in the evening for the first time in the ACL tournament this season.

The situation became more difficult after Natxo Insa who was taken out to be replaced by Nathaniel Hong Wan was seen to have slightly affected the tactics of JDT's game in terms of dominance in the middle.

Ulsan Hyundai doubled the pressure towards JDT's fort and Amano once again tried to make an accurate attempt towards the goal in the 17th minute, but this time Farizal was more prepared to fire the shot.

In the 24th minute, the match referee, Nawaf Abdulla Shukralla made a controversial decision when he denied Fernando Forestieri's goal which was counted as offside after receiving a pass from Afiq Fazail.

Continuing the second half, JDT once again fell victim to the referee's decision when the opposing defender who dropped Arif Aiman in the penalty box was not punished by the referee from Bahrain in the 46th minute.

In the 60th minute, Leandro almost added his personal goal but a curling shot from outside the penalty box slightly missed past the opponent's goal.

JDT was seen to be able to defend well to break the current attack of the South Korean giants who tried to add a goal to put the team in a comfortable position.

Harimau Selatan almost scored as a result of attempts by substitutes Safawi Rasid and Ramadhan Saifullah but failed to score.

When JDT was seen to have almost collapsed in the group stage, the last attack of the host team through a pass to Arif Aiman into the penalty box was quiz Yong Woo to grab an important victory in the history of the club. - ONLINE MESSENGER

No delay in implementation of PGM 2022 for all economic sectors

The government has decided to not allow any economic sector or type of employment to delay the implementation of the 2022 Minimum Wage Order (PGM), said Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan. - Astro AWANI

PUTRAJAYA: The government has decided to not allow any economic sector or type of employment to delay implementation of the 2022 Minimum Wage Order (PGM), said Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.

He said the government had provided assistance to employers through the COVID-19 assistance package, such as the Wage Subsidy Programme which had helped in sustaining businesses and safeguarding employment.

backup_ads

"This is also to ensure employees benefit from the increase in the minimum wage," he said in a statement today.

Saravanan said the decision on the minimum wage was appropriate to ensure the welfare of workers, especially those with low income, while employers would also benefit from the increase in consumer purchasing power.

"The government also expects the increase in the minimum wage to have a positive impact on the country, employers and employees which will help accelerate the country's economic recovery due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The increase in the minimum wage will also help achieve Malaysia's aspiration to become a high -income country by 2030," he said.

The new minimum wage of RM1,500 a month effective May 1 was officially gazetted last Wednesday (April 27).

The Minimum Wages Order issued by the Human Resources Minister was published in the Federal Government Gazette and uploaded on the official website of the Attorney-General's Chambers on Thursday (April 28).

According to the gazette under Paragraph 4 (1), an employee who is not paid basic wages but is paid based on piece rate, tonnage, task, trip or commission, the monthly wage rate payable to the employee with effect from May 1, 2022 shall not be less than RM1,500.

For an employer who employs five or more employees or an employer who carries out professional activities classified under the Malaysian Standard Classification of Occupations (MASCO) 2020, the minimum wage rate of RM1,500 is effective from tomorrow (May 1).

Meanwhile, for employers who employ less than five employees, the effective minimum wage of RM1,500 will start on Jan 1, 2023.

"Therefore, for the period May 1, 2022 to Dec 31, 2022, the minimum wage rate that is applicable is RM1,200 per month for employment in City Council or Municipal Council areas, and RM1,100 per month for other areas.

"The postponement of the minimum wage of RM1,500 per month for employers who employ less than five employees is to give the employers the opportunity to make appropriate preparations," he said.

Saravanan said the daily and hourly minimum wage rates as well as the wage rates for workers woth no basic salary, but paid according to their jobs and productivity, such as commissions, piece rate, etc, are also detailed in the PGM 2022.

He said the implementation of the minimum wage did not apply to domestic servants as in the previous PGM.

"The enforcement of the minimum wage will be implemented by the Manpower Department of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. As such, all employers are required to comply with the implementation of the new minimum wage," he said.

"Applicants can submit an appeal with relevant documents for a review by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).

"This appeal process is also to ensure that the assistance will reach those who really need it," he said in a statement today.

He said appeal applications could be submitted either online via the IRB BKM 2022 official portal from May 2 at https://bkm.hasil.gov.my or by delivering the BKM 2022 appeal form manually.

The appeal forms can be delivered manually from May 9 to the nearest IRB branches, Satellite Offices (PS), Revenue Service Centres (PKH) or Urban Transformation Centre (UTC).

"Once the BKM database is updated, BKM payments to applicants whose appeal is successful will be channelled during Phase 3 and Phase 4 that are scheduled for September and December," he said.

He said these applicants can refer to the frequently asked questions (FAQ) which have been uploaded on BKM's official portal (https://bkm.hasil.gov.my) for more information.

"The government remains committed to ensuring this assistance reaches those targeted to ensure the well-being of the Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family)," he said.

Tengku Zafrul said the government had updated data of the B40 group that is eligible to receive the BKM and, so far, nearly RM2 billion had been paid out under Phase 1 to almost nine million B40 recipients nationwide in March while a payout of RM1.1 billion under Phase 2 will be made in June.

The assessment criteria cover the character and integrity of applicants, nature and sufficiency of financial resources, soundness and feasibility of business and technology plans as well as ability to meaningfully address financial inclusion gaps.

The central bank said applications were assessed on their individual merits as well as relative to other applications based on consistent evaluations of each assessment criteria.

This horizontal review is based on the assessment criteria applied across all applicants to determine the relative strength of each application and identify successful applicants, it added.

BNM noted that four levels of assessment were carried out, supported by a cross-functional technical team, a review team and internal independent observers from BNM's risk and legal departments.

The final recommendations forwarded to Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz were deliberated and endorsed by BNM's Management Committee.

According to Hamzah, while on stage to receive the letter, Rohana said she was touched by the gesture.

His remains were laid to rest in accordance to the customs and traditions of the Indian community after they were brought back to his home at Tanjung Rambutan at 3 pm and arrived at the crematorium at 4 pm.

A sombre atmosphere enveloped the crematorium when over 100 family members and friends of the deceased showed up to pay their final respects to Nagaenthran before his remains were cremated at around 5 pm.

The Singapore Appeals Court on Tuesday (April 26) rejected the final appeal filed by the deceased's mother, S. Panchalai, 60, to set aside the conviction and death sentence on her son.

He was supposed to be executed by hanging on Nov 10, 2021, but obtained a temporary stay on Nov 9 when the court was informed he was COVID-19 positive while attending his final appeal against his death sentence.

Datuk Kamarudin Md Din

KUALA LUMPUR (April 29): Nine individuals including two women were detained on suspicion of being involved in a syndicate offering non-existent jobs in Australia in two separate raids in the Klang Valley on Wednesday.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Kamarudin Md Din
said all the suspects, aged 20 to 31, were believed to be working at the syndicate’s call centre which had been operating since March 2020.

He said investigations revealed that the syndicate used social media platforms such as the Whatsapp application, Facebook and Instagram, under https:///www.facebook.com/ecotravelmalaysia and https://www.facebook.com/malaysiaecotravel, to advertise job offers in Australia.

Kamarudin said the syndicate also used https:www.malaysia-ecotravel.com/ website to guide unsuspecting victims to apply for a work visa abroad.

“Victims were charged AUD420 (RM1,400) for processing costs (visa application) and the syndicate entered the victim’s information in the ‘immiaccount online application’ before sending them a screenshot showing the application document as well as a copy of the fake document using the Australian Government-Department Home Affairs letterhead.

“Based on the record in the immiaccount online application, a total of 658 applications using the syndicate’s email address is still pending for processing involving Bangladeshis, Malaysians and Pakistanis,” he said in a statement today.

Kamarudin said as of today 1,023 individuals have lodged a report to the Australian embassy while police received 28 reports regarding the matter with losses amounting to RM155,472.

He said the syndicate changed its company name, Facebook account and website address several times, using names such as Top Speed Agency Visa and Eco Travel Malaysia, among others, but the design, email template, invoice as well as social media accounts maintained the same format.

Those who have fallen victim to this syndicate are urged to lodge a report so that further investigations can be carried out, he added.

“Individuals are advised to check and confirm with the relevant agencies before applying for a suspicious job offer or contact the CCID Scam Response Centre at 03-26101559 or 03-26101599,” he said.

Kamarudin said the case was being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Prevention of Crime Act 1959 and Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

Immigration Department will abolish the Online Appointment System (STO)

PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department will abolish the Online Appointment System (STO) as well as extend the operating hours of passport issuance offices and counters to overcome problems regarding the application and renewal of the Malaysian International Passport (PMA).

Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud announced that the STO for all passport issuance offices outside the Klang Valley will be abolished from May 9, while in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor Bahru, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka from May 16.

“Those who have received an appointment date through STO from May 16 no longer need to follow the given date,“ he said in a statement today.

Khairul Dzaimee also announced that all passport issuance offices in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Putrajaya, Johor Bahru, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka will operate every Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm beginning May 14.

Apart from that, the operating hours of immigration counters at the Urban Transformation Centres (UTC) in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Johor Bahru will be extended to 10 pm starting May 16.

Khairul Dzaimee said the difficulties faced by Malaysians were due to the sharp increase in passport application and renewal following the reopening of the country's borders from April 1, causing the online system to be congested.

He said a total of 151,173 passports were issued nationwide from April 1 to 26.

On average, he said 8,000 passport applications were received daily, an increase of about 40 per cent compared to before the reopening of borders.

Khairul Dzaimee said new applicants, senior citizens, people with disabilities, students, children and applicants who will perform the haj can go straightaway to the counter in Putrajaya.

“However, for PMA renewal applications, the Putrajaya Passport Office will only process applications made online and those who have received notification via email,“ he added.
