Malaysia Population: Of the 32.4 million population counted, 52.3% were men and 47.7% were women.




Census: The gender ratio of the Malaysian population is 110 men to 100 women

SHAH ALAM: The current gender ratio of the Malaysian population is 110 for men compared to 100 for women.

This is according to the Key Findings data of the 2020 Population and Housing Census announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob this morning.He said the findings released by the Department of Statistics also showed that of the 32.4 million population counted, 52.3 per cent were men and the remaining 47.7 per cent were women.

"The census findings also show that the state with more women than men is the Federal Territory of Putrajaya, where 100 women are equivalent to 96 men.

"For statistics by ethnicity, the Bumiputera population recorded the highest percentage of 69.4 percent, followed by Chinese (23.2%), Indians (6.7%) and Others (0.7%)," he said.

He said this in his speech when launching the preliminary findings of the Malaysian Population and Housing Census 2020 (Census of Malaysia 2020) at the Management and Science University here today.

In addition, census data also showed that of Malaysia's 32.4 million population, 6.8 per cent were aged 65 and above, 69.3 per cent were working age (15 to 64 years) and the remaining 24.0 per cent were young (0 to 14 years).

Senior citizens, ie the population aged 60 and above, recorded 10.4 per cent (3.4 million) compared to 8.0 per cent (2.2 million) in 2010.

The young age group of Malaysia also showed a decrease from 27.6 per cent in 2010 to 24.0 per cent in 2020.
