KUALA LUMPUR: The driver of a car using a motorcycle route near ayer panas toll plaza, Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (Duke) here whose video went viral was summoned by police on Saturday.
The actions of the driver of the car, which endangered other motorists, especially motorcyclists, were recorded before being uploaded on Facebook and the snake prompted netizen condemnation.
According to Assistant Commissioner Sarifudin Mohd Salleh, head of the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Kuala Lumpur, the police continued to track down the owner of the car. The owner of the car, a 49-year-old local woman, was spotted about 5pm on Saturday.
"The action of a summons under Rule 008(3) LN 166/59) for an offence of not following a traffic pass mark has been issued to the owner of the vehicle," it said in a statement on Sunday.
He said road users needed to abide by the traffic rules.
"Motorcycle lanes are routes that are reserved for motorcycles only and vehicles such as cars are not allowed through them.
"Such actions harm other users and can lead to accidents," he said.
On Saturday, a video of a Perodua Axia-type car being driven by a woman through a motorcycle route near the Ayer Panas Toll Plaza, Duke Highway was viral on social media.
The video claims the driver used a motorcycle route to avoid paying a toll of RM2.50.
