KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur High Court ordered UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, 69, to defend himself on 47 counts of breach of trust, bribery and money laundering involving Yayasan Akalbudi funds.
High Court Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah made the decision after the prosecution successfully proved prima facie against the allegations involving the former Deputy Prime Minister.
Ahmad Zahid was given three options which is first, he can remain silent and not answer the charge; secondly, he can give a unsworn statement from the witness place without cross-examination by the prosecution.
While the last option, Ahmad Zahid testified under oath with the prosecution given the opportunity to question him during cross-examination.

Ahmad Zahid was represented by Lawyers Hisyam Teh Poh Teik and Hamidi Mohd Noh while the defence team was headed by Raja Rozela Raja Toran.
The High Court set dates March 28 to 31, April 11 to 13, April 26 to 28, May 23 to 26, and June 27 to 30 for self-defense proceedings.
