Jockeys Lyle Hewitson, Zac Purton and Yuichi Fukunaga were sent to hospital as four horses crashed into each other at Shatin Racecourse on Sunday.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club confirmed that the three were all in a stable condition after being taken to the nearby Prince of Wales hospital. Sadly, Amazing Star and Naboo Attack both had to be euthanised as a result of their injuries.
The accident occurred in the fifth race, which was the 1,200-meter Longines Hong Kong Sprint on the "A" course at 2.40pm.
Amazing Star, rode by Hewitson, was leading the race, but lost its footing when rounding the last corner before going home straight for the last 500 meters.
Hewitson fell from horseback and appeared to be kicked by the horse.
Amazing Star crashed into three other horses, including Karis Teetan on Naboo Attack, Purton on Lucky Patch and Fukunaga on Pixie Knight. All of the jockeys fell off their horses, and Teetan managed to stand up after the fall.
The race was won by Hong Kong's Sky Field. Japan's Resistencia came second, followed by Hong Kong's Courier Wonder.
Jockey Club said the three jockeys were conscious when they were sent to hospital for further medical assessment.
Due to the accident, the trophy presentation of that race and the remaining races will be scaled down, including not playing the national anthem.
