KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 27 -- Not only was she happy to be fielded, national women's football squad goalkeeper Nurul Azurin Mazlan could not hide her pride when she was able to not let in any goals in her debut match for Misaka United FC in the Karnataka Women's League in India, yesterday.

Nurul Azurin described her performance in the match where her team defeated Bengaluru Braves 4-0 as putting her on the right track towards the start of her football career in India.

"Today is my sixth day (in India), yesterday's game we won 4-0, clean sheet in my debut (playing for an Indian club)," she said when contacted by Bernama.

The 21-year-old, whose contract with the club is until Jan 31, is determined to continue to match the performance in her second appearance as she expected to be fielded again against Kickstart FC this Thursday.

Meanwhile, Nurul Azurin explained that her "migration" to India started after seeing a post on Twitter looking for an international player before she sent her resume to Misaka United FC.

She said the club then agreed to take her on board after being impressed with her performance when representing the country in the 2022 Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers in Palestine, last September.

Asked about the difference in playing in Malaysia, the two-time winner of the Best Female Player of the Year Award ( 2015 and 2018) said she found that the training pattern was not much different from home except for the cold weather with the temperature reaching 14 degrees Celsius at one time.

She also expressed her appreciation to her sponsors and all those who made her India foray possible.

The assistance among others came from Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker, the Professional Footballers Association of Malaysia (PFAM), the Women's Footballers Association of Malaysia and former national player Hairuddin Omar, who provided food packs for her stay in India.
