PETALING JAYA: Azizulhasni Awang successfully retained his men’s elite sprint title at the Asian Track Cycling Championships in Jincheon, South Korea, on Monday (Oct 21).

He had to do it the hard way though, beating Japan’s Wuta Wakimoto in three heats in the final.

Azizul earlier beat another Japanese rider Fukaya Tomohiro in two semi-final heats to reach the final.

Azizul’s teammate Mohd Shah Firdaus Sahrom lost in two heats in the other semi-final to Wakimoto.

Azizul is the reigning Asian Games champion for sprint.

He earlier bagged silver behind Wakimoto in the keirin final last Friday (Oct 18).
