KUALA LUMPUR: Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) group chairman Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz has refuted Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s earlier statement on the appointment of PNB’s new chief executive officer (CEO), denying that she had acted unilaterally on the selection.
On Aug 29, Dr Mahathir was reported to have said he was not informed about the appointment of Jalil Rasheed as the new CEO of the country’s biggest fund manager.
“We have a nomination and remuneration committee of the board, where it (the appointment) was first discussed. It’s presented to the board and to Yayasan Pelaburan Bumiputra which is chaired by the Prime Minister.“The appointment of the CEO must also be approved by the Securities Commission, as PNB is a regulated institution and such senior appointment requires its approvals, ” Zeti told reporters after launching Merdeka 118’s show gallery here yesterday.
Zeti said that Dr Mahathir knew about Jalil’s appointment prior to PNB’s official announcement.
“But maybe he didn’t know the timing of the announcement, ” she added.
Jalil was appointed as PNB’s president and CEO following the ending of the contract of his predecessor Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad on Sept 30.
Jalil, 38, will assume his post effective Oct 1.
