PETALING JAYA: The Education Ministry has indicated that more schools are expected to close as the Air Pollutant Index (API) continues to rise.


In a statement issued at 4pm on Tuesday (Sept 17), the ministry said a total of 636 schools in Sarawak, Selangor, Putrajaya and Negri Sembilan have been shut down, affecting 445,249 schoolchildren.

About 12 private schools involving 7,432 students in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Putrajaya and Negri Sembilan have also shuttered their doors Tuesday.

An API reading of between 0 and 50 is categorised as good, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy) and above 300 (hazardous).
