KUALA LUMPUR: The police have detained 108 illegal immigrants in an enforcement operation carried out here on Saturday (Sept 21), says Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim.

The Kuala Lumpur police chief said among those detained were 24 Bangladeshis, 18 Africans, 29 Myanmar nationals and 17 Indonesians, and added that all detained were taken to the Jinjang Central Lockup for further action.

"Approximately 199 police personnel performed checks at Masjid Jamek, Jalan Alor, Plaza Idaman in Setapak as well as several other locations in the city with the assistance of other departments such as the Immigration Department.

"Among the offences of the immigrants were overstaying and not having proper passes or identification documents," he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 23).
