Two men in viral fighting video get one-day jail and RM1,000 fine each

KUALA LUMPUR: Two men filmed fighting at a toll plaza in a viral video has been jailed a day and fined RM1,000 each by a Magistrate's Court here.
The fine was in default of a month's jail for being involved in a public altercation.
Magistrate Noorasyikin Sahat meted out the sentence against manager Ng Whye Hoong, 38, and trader Mohamad Fazrien Mohd Ziear, 30, after both pleaded guilty to committing the offence at Plaza Tol Bukit Kiara at 4.30pm on Sept 17.
The charge under Section 160 of the Penal Code carries a maximum of six months' in jail or a fine of up to RM1,000 or both, upon conviction.
Before passing the sentence, Noorasyikin advised both men to be patient and feel ashamed of the incident.
"I wonder why it is so easy for one to lose their patience these days. Fazrien, you should set a good example as a Muslim.
"Ng, at your age, you should be more mature and think about what your children would feel if they see the viral video on the Internet," the magistrate said here on Friday (Sept 20).
Noorasyikin also told off Fazrien's wife, who was seated in the public gallery, for recording the incident.
"As a wife, you should try to mend the situation, not recording it. A good wife would not let her husband get involved in a fight," she added.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Rajdeep Singh asked the court to mete out a sentence that would serve as a lesson to both men on grounds that such cases have become rampant of late.
Lawyer Izzat Amir Saharudin, who represented both men, asked for a lenient sentence as his clients were first time offenders.
"They are remorseful of their action. Their guilty pleas have saved the court's time," he said.
It was understood that Ng's car had overtaken Fazrien's van before braking in front of the van. Both drivers then stopped at Plaza Tol Bukit Kiara and fought.
A video depicting two men in a fistfight at a toll plaza became viral on social media since Tuesday.
