PETALING JAYA: Twenty-nine schools in Selangor will be closed on Friday (Sept 13) following the worsening air quality due to the haze.

This is a jump from just five schools closed on Thursday (Sept 12), said the Selangor Education Department in a statement.

The closure on Friday will affect 24 schools in Klang including six secondary schools and five in Kuala Langat, which includes one secondary school.

“As of 7pm, the Selangor Education Department received a report that five schools were closed on Sept 12,2019 and 29 schools will be closed on Sept 13,2019, ” said the statement posted by the Information Department on its Twitter account.

The Selangor Education Department also reminded schools to close immediately if the Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at its area goes over 200, in line with the recent announcement by the Education Ministry.

The closure of schools on Thursday affected 10,100 students while the closure on Friday will affect 45,265 students.
