CIMB declined to comment on claims over social media that its computer systems have been hit with a ransomware attack.PETALING JAYA: CIMB assured customers today that its core banking system is intact despite the technical problems it has been experiencing.
A company spokesman declined to deny or confirm that the bank’s servers, computers and laptops have been hit with a ransomware attack, as alleged over social media.
“We do not comment on speculation and rumours,” the spokesman told FMT.
“However, we would like to reiterate that CIMB’s core banking system has always remained intact, which means customers were always able to perform banking transactions via CIMB Clicks, CIMB BizChannel and Self Service Terminals.”
CIMB has been facing criticism online over technical difficulties customers are facing when trying to access their banking services.
Companies like Malaysia Airlines today also issued statements to say that CIMB is experiencing a technical glitch with its card payment system. Users were advised to use CIMB Clicks or other alternative payment methods.
CIMB Bank Bhd and CIMB Islamic Bank Bhd later said the technical difficulties had been rectified.
Earlier, Twitter user @aizadfahmy claimed that CIMB servers were hit with a ransomware attack. However, he said that although transactions were affected, users’ money was safe. His tweets have gone viral.
Last month, CIMB Clicks was also reported to be down across the board as well.
