KUALA SELANGOR: A 66-year-old man committed suicide after he was involved in an accident, which killed another motorist in Tanjung Karang.

A Mercedes Benz C200 driven by the senior citizen had collided with a Perodua Myvi driven by a 40-year-old man at 2.53am at Batu 5, Jalan Kampung Sungai Tiram Jaya in Tanjung Karang on Saturday (Sept 7).

The impact of the collision caused the Myvi to be flung into a nearby drain.

Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat said the driver of the Myvi suffered severe injuries and died at the scene.

"Witnesses saw the senior citizen in a daze immediately after the collision but he was safe.

"However, he then took out a knife and slit his own throat. Members of the public could not save him," he said.

A postmortem on the senior citizen has been conducted at the Tanjung Karang Hospital and the cause of death is massive bleeding secondary to a deep incised wound over the neck, added SAC Fadzil.

"We are investigating the matter under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for fatal accident and sudden death," he said.
