Ainul Mardhiah allowed to return home to Melaka
PETALING JAYA: After four months of treatment, including an operation in London, 13-month-old Ainul Mardhiah Ahmad Safiuddin is allowed to return home in Taman Ayer Molek, Melaka on Saturday (Sept 7) night.
Ainul Mardhiah, who had a rare germ cell tumour, was allowed to return home along with her parents Ahmad Safiuddin Ahmad Razak, 24, and Nurul Erwani Zaidi, 23, from Hospital Melaka after being transferred from Hospital Kuala Lumpur on Friday (Sept 6).
According to Ahmad Saifuddin, since the operation, his daughter is showing positive development, including weight gain from 2.3kg to 3.8kg, and is responding to her name.
"Last night, Ainul Mardhiah slept peacefully while she is trying to adapt to her home..
He also told the Malay daily that since his child has not fully recovered, he and his wife would focus on cleanliness by bathing and washing their hands often.
Ahmad Safiuddin also apologised for not allowing those who visited Ainul Mardhiah to carry her due to health reasons.
"We know that many are concerned about Ainul Mardhiah, and wanted to carry her, but we hope that the people understand that we are not being arrogant as her health is our main priority," he was quoted as saying.
Ainul Mardhiah's story received public's attention when a video recording of the baby who had a tumour in her mouth went viral on social media.
She arrived in London on May 25 and underwent a five-hour operation at the Great Ormond Street Hospital to remove a 200g tumour on June 10.
The surgery was performed by a group of specialist doctors from different fields together with UK-based trainee surgeon Dr Nur Amalina Che Bakri, who brought the baby and her parents to London to seek treatment.
Ainul Mardhiah's plight caught not just the attention of Malaysians but also Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who visited her when he was in the United Kingdom on a three-day working visit in June.
Ainul Mardhiah and her family returned to Malaysia from London on July 28.
