SHAH ALAM: Port Dickson MP Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was officially announced as PKR president at the party's national congress on Sunday (Nov 18).

The hall where the event was being held erupted into loud cheers and chants of "Azmin, Azmin, Azmin" as incumbent Datuk Seri Azmin Ali was announced party deputy president by Central Election Committee (CEC) chairman Datuk Rashid Din.

Azmin, who successfully defended his position as the party’s No. 2 post, received his certificate of accreditation from former president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Azmin retained his position after defeating his challenger Rafizi Ramli in the party polls.

Amongst the four vice-presidents, Ampang MP and former PKR Women’s wing chief Zuraida Kamaruddin received the loudest cheer when her name was announced.

The other new vice-presidents are Nurul Izzah Anwar, Xavier Jayakumar and Tian Chua.

In contrast, there was loud jeering and booing when Julau division chief and MP Larry Sng’s name was announced as one of 20 newly elected party supreme council members.

Dr Wan Azizah then intervened to stop the delegates from jeering and booing Sng as he went up on stage to collect his certificate of accreditation.

Sng’s name was mire in controversy due to the allegations of phantom voters in the Julau division.

Julau PKR branch's membership was reported to have spiked from only 603 on June 26 to 13,000 a day later.

Due to the controversy surrounding the division polls, the results of the Julau division was not tabulated into the results of the party polls.
