SERDANG: Police are on the hunt for the driver of a pick-up truck believed to be involved in a hit and run accident that killed a woman and injured at least three others at a hawker centre at Taman Equine here.

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Ismadi Borhan said the incident occurred at around 8.15pm on Sunday (Nov 18).

"The vehicle ploughed into a table at the open air area of the hawker centre along Jalan Equine 9B.

"After the initial collision the driver just drove off and hit three other vehicles there.

"So far we have yet to get an eyewitness who got the vehicle licence plate number," he said when met at the scene.

He added that a woman in her 50s died at the scene while at least three others suffered injuries.

"The deceased and injured were taken to the Serdang Hospital.

"We are now working on gathering CCTV footage from the area to identify the vehicle involved," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing a death by reckless or dangerous driving.

ACP Ismadi urged anyone with information on the incident to contact the police hotline at 03-2052 9999 or visit the nearest police station immediately.

KUALA LUMPUR: The driver of a Toyota Hilux which ploughed into roadside diners at a restaurant in Taman Equine here last night has been arrested by police.

Serdang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ismadi Borhan said the man was arrested at about 1.43am.

"The driver, a Sarawakian, has been arrested. He was tested negative for drugs and police has taken his blood sample for an alcohol test.

"We expect to remand him at the Petaling Jaya court at 10am today," he said in a statement today.

A 57-year-old female diner was killed and four others injured when the four-wheel drive (4WD) pickup truck skidded and slammed into patrons of the eatery at Jalan Equine 9B at about 8pm on Sunday night.

The driver also crashed into three other vehicles before fleeing the scene.

Images taken by witnesses at the location in the aftermath of the accident show overturned and flattened plastic tables and chairs, as well as a woman awaiting medical attention sitting on the ground.

The pickup truck was found abandoned at around midnight at Jalan Indah 1/22, Taman Universiti Indah, Seri Kembangan.
