Proposal to limit operation hours for KL entertainment centres to be presented to ministry

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall's (DBKL) proposal to shorten the operation hours of entertainment centres will be presented to the Federal Territories Ministry soon.
Mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan said the proposal was to limit operation hours for entertainment premises within the city centre until 1am.
"Most of these entertainment premises that operate after hours are frequented by locals, not foreigners.
"Therefore only a select few entertainment outlets that are frequented by tourists would be allowed to operate until 5am.
"After this, there will be no more night clubs that open beyond the given closing time, we will present the proposal paper to the ministry soon," he said after attending the 2018 KL Dualthon at Dataran Merdeka, here, today.
Two days ago, three entertainment premises were raided by DBKL for operating without a license over the past 10 years.
Commenting further, he said the City Hall would continue to enforce the rules in a bid to ensure that entertainment outlet operators do not flout them.
"We will raid and we will take action according to the law.
"In my opinion, even if you want to have your 'happy hours', be reasonable.
"If night clubs close earlier, people can sleep early and improve their health," he said. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
