Carpet guy Deepak accuses Shafee and Azeez of interfering in Altantuya murder case

PETALING JAYA: Carpet trader Deepak Jaikishan (pic above left) has lodged a police report against senior lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah and Baling MP Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Rahim for alleged interference in the murder case of Altantuya Shaariibuu (pic above right).
Deepak claimed that both allegedly interfered in a suit filed by the widow of late private investigator P. Balasubramaniam over the murder of Mongolian model and translator Altantuya. He also claimed that he was forced to engage Muhammad Shafee as his lawyer by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The report was lodged on Friday (Sept 15) at the Dang Wangi police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. Deepak is also a defendant in the case. He claimed that he was prevented from being questioned during cross-examination over his contradictory statements on three separate occasions during the murder trial.
He claimed he also possessed audio and visual recordings to prove his allegations.
When contacted, the Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Shaharuddin Abdullah confirmed that the police report was lodged and the case has been referred to the Sentul police headquarters.
Balasubramaniam, the private investigator hired by Abdul Razak Baginda, revealed a shocking statutory declaration (SD) at a press conference on July 3, 2008, alleging the police had deliberately omitted relevant information about the Altantuya murder case.
In the SD, he claimed that he had told the police that Razak said he was introduced to Altantuya by Najib at a diamond exhibition in Singapore and that Najib told him that he (Najib) and Altantuya had a sexual relationship and that "she was susceptible to anal intercourse."
Balasubramaniam said Razak told him that Najib had asked him (Razak) "to look after" Altantuya aka Aminah because he did not want her to harass him now that he was (then) deputy prime minister.
He also said in his sworn SD that Razak had told him that Altantuya had wanted money as she felt entitled to the US$500,000 commission from the submarine deal she had assisted the Malaysian government with in Paris; and that Najib, Razak and Altantuya all had dinner together in Paris.
Balasubramaniam also claimed that on the day Razak was arrested for abetting in Altantuya's murder, Razak showed him Najib's SMS which supposedly said: "I am seeing the IGP at 11am today...matter will be solved...be cool."
But barely 24 hours after making it public, Balasubramaniam retracted his SD, and made another SD, saying that he had made the first one "under duress".
He later went off to exile in India.
In 2013, he returned to Malaysia but died suddenly on March 16.
Balasubramaniam’s widow A. Santamil Selvi filed a suit for suffering intentional harm as a result of their exile in India following the SD in relation to the murder of Altantuya.
Santamil, who is also acting for the estate of Balasubramaniam and their three children – B. Kishen, B. Menaga and B. Reeshi – filed the suit on July 13, 2017.
A. Santamil Selvi and her three children sued nine people over the supposed conspiracy.
The nine defendants were Deepak, Najib’s younger brothers Datuk Ahmad Johari Abdul Razak and Datuk Mohd Nazim Abdul Razak, senior lawyer Tan Sri Cecil Abraham, his son counsel Sunil Abraham, Commissioner of Oath Zainal Abidin Muhayat and lawyer M. Arulampalam.
