KUALA LUMPUR: Three men have been detained in connection with an incident in which a man was attacked by assailants, one of whom was armed with a samurai sword.

The attack went viral on social media.

Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zainuddin Yaacob said the incident occurred at 4.39pm on Thursday (Sept 6) after the victim, a highway traffic supervisor, ordered a man to move his vehicle as it was parked at the entrance of a highway project site along Jalan Alam Damai, Cheras.

"The suspect was upset and an argument ensued.

"The suspect then called one of his friends to assist. The friend punched the supervisor on the face, while the suspect took out a samurai sword and slashed the victim on his back," DCP Zainuddin said.

He added that they then fled the scene.

"The victim was rushed to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital where he received treatment," he said.

DCP Zainuddin said police managed to track down the suspect and arrested three men aged between 23 and 25.

"We also seized the samurai sword used in the attack," he said, adding that police were investigating the matter further.

DCP Zainuddin also advised the public not to speculate on the incident and urged anyone with information to contact investigating officer Insp Muhammad Shahriman Othman at 017-6528746 or Deputy Supt Zolkifli Mohd Yasin at 019-2580008.
