Rela rejects compensation offer from 'Datuk Seri' in assault case

KUALA LUMPUR: Rela has rejected a compensation offer from the Datuk Seri accused of assaulting three Rela members in an incident last year.

An Ampang magistrate's court here was informed of this by Datuk Seri Liow Soon Hee’s (pic) lawyer, Datuk Rajpal Singh during a mention Tuesday.


“We have sent a letter of representation to Rela, seeking to compensate the Rela members involved.

“However, we did not get a favourable answer. We have informed the Attorney General Chambers of the answer,” he said.

Magistrate Mohamad Firdaus Sadina Ali then said the trial would continue as fixed on Sept 5, 6 and 7, and that bail would maintained.

DPP Norhashimah Hashim appeared for the prosecution.

Rela director-general Zulkifli Abidin was present during the proceeding.

Liow, a businessman, claimed trial to an amended charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code where he pleaded not guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to Lee, 28.

He was previously charged under Section 325 of the Code for causing grievous hurt to Lee.

The accused faces another two charges under Section 323 of the Code for causing hurt to Leong, 22, and Cheong, 20.

Liow, 30, was also charged with using criminal force to deter Cheong from carrying out his duty as a Rela officer and was accused under Section 353 of the same Code.All of the offences were allegedly committed at the compound of Kou Ong Yah Temple, Jalan Merdeka, Kampung Baru Ampang in Ampang at about 6.30am on Oct 27, last year.
