Royal Floria Putrajaya reflects standard of nation's landscaping industry

PUTRAJAYA: The 2018 Royal Floria Putrajaya has evolved from merely a tourism product into an iconic event, which reflected the high standard of the landscaping and horticulture industry of the country. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the annual event aptly themed “10 Wonders of Floria” in conjunction with its 10th anniversary this year has also cemented Putrajaya’s “city in the park” and “flora city” status. She also praised the continuous efforts by the Federal Territories Ministry and Putrajaya Corporation, which are organisers of the event, to turn the nation’s administrative capital into a leading floriculture and floral exposition destination. “These efforts have produced results as the event received 10 awards, which is symbolic as Royal Floria Putrajaya entered its 10th edition this year. “It is our aspiration that Royal Floria Putrajaya will reach the same or surpass the standard and recognition of the grandest tulips festival held annually in Keukenhof (in the South of Holland, Netherlands), which received almost one million visitors from 100 countries,” she said in her speech during the launching ceremony of the event at Anjung Floria here this morning.

Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who was accompanied by Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, graced the launching ceremony of the event. Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad and Selangor Menteri Besar, Amirudin Shari, were also present. Dr Wan Azizah said the achievement made by the event, which was invited as a member of the South Korea based Council of Asian Flower Exhibition last year, is a form of recognition that Royal Floria Putrajaya is the largest flower and garden festival in the region. The nine-day event, which will take place until Sept 2, is targeted to attract more than 1.5 million visitors. More than 400,000 types of flowers and plants in various forms of landscape will displayed during the event, which also received participations from Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Taiwan, China, Japan, South Korea and Germany. © New Straits Times Pres
