SEREMBAN: Police arrested a 23-year-old babysitter, to facilitate investigation over a possible child abuse case.

Seremban district police chief Assistant Commissioner Thiew Hock Poh said, the woman was arrested at 8.45pm today at the Seremban police district headquarters following internal injuries found on a four-month-old baby boy.

The baby was rushed to the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital Seremban (TJHS) on Monday after he was found unconscious at his babysitter's house.

"On Aug 20, the infant's mother received a call from the babysitter informing about her baby's condition who had shown signs of weakness due to crying.

"The infant's father rushed to the babysitter's house in Taman Sri Mambau Seremban, before sending him to TJHS for treatment," he said.

Thiew said, police would seek a remand order against the babysitter tomorrow to facilitate the investigation under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001.

Today, the media had reported that the infant, Muhammad Ummar Zayyan Muhammad Haikal Hafiz, suffered internal injuries on his brain and eyes.

His mother, Zura Emilia Mokhtar, 26, when contacted, said she and her husband had only known the babysitter from a Facebook page and had only sent their son there for a week.

"Last Monday, I received a call from the babysitter informing about my baby boy's condition who was unconscious. My husband immediately fetched our son and sent him to TJHS for immediate treatment," she said.

The incident became viral on Facebook today, when a man claimed that the doctor had also found bruises on the baby's abdomen and thigh.

Asked on the matter, Zura Emilia said she did not expect the incident to become viral and refused to blame anybody and would leave the case to the police for further investigation. © New Straits Times Press
