Unemployed man charged for claiming to be Kelantan royalty, adopted son of Yang di-Pertuan Agong

KOTA BHARU: An unemployed man was today charged at the magistrate’s court for impersonating a member of the Kelantan royalty. Nik Muhammad Hafilzul Adzhar Abdul Razak, 24, was allegedly proclaimed himself on social media as Tengku Mahkota Kelantan and the adopted son of Sultan Muhammad V. 

He was accused of uploading derogatory status and comments on his Instagram account with the intent to annoy, abuse and harass the Kelantan Royal institution on April 4 at 9.30pm. 

The accused, who was unrepresented, was also allegedly referred himself as ‘beta’ (first person pronoun to be used only by royal families) in his social media post. 

He pleaded not guilty to the charge read before Magistrate Izuddin Mohd Shukri. The offence under Section 233 (1) (a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 carries a maximum penalty of one-year imprisonment and a RM50,000 fine, with RM1,000 fine each day for subsequent conviction

. The court granted a RM4,000 bail with one surety. Mention was fixed on Sept 24. © New Straits Times Press
