PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic) has called on the Government to reveal the feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses and economic impact studies done to account for the cancellation of three mega projects.

The MCA deputy president also urged the Government to show the contracts for all the three projects including the termination and compensation clauses.

"I make no apologies in calling the Pakatan Harapan Government to be transparent and accountable vis-a-vis the three cancelled projects. Show us and declassify the documents if necessary.

"With regards to the two pipeline projects and the alleged unfair terms of payment upfront, show us proof that the contractor – which is the fourth largest company in the world – will not complete the two pipelines within the agreed three-year period," he said in a Facebook posting Wednesday (Aug 22), referring to a recent commentary on news portal Malaysiakini that he "conflates politics with projects".

Dr Wee also urged the Government clarify if its stand is that China Communications and Construction Company (CCCC) and China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau (CPPB) – which are Chinese state-owned companies and among the largest in the world – have engaged in corrupt practices in deceiving and cheating Malaysia.

The three mega projects axed by the Government are the RM55bil East Cost Rail Link (ECRL) undertaken by CCCC, as well as the RM9.41bil Multi-Product Pipeline (MPP) and the Trans-Sabah Gas Pipeline (TSGP), which are undertaken by CPPB.

"A video showing the significant completion of the ECRL project has also been circulating. Many Malaysians commented that it is a waste to cancel it now and yet have to pay another RM22bil in cancellation penalties.

"Some even wonder if this cancellation was a punishment to the three states that could have benefited the most from this project – Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang – as they are states not under the control of Pakatan," Dr Wee said.

He added that it was only fair that Malaysians were given all the facts so that the people can evaluate for themselves if Pakatan's allegations are true and if cancelling the three projects was the right decision.

Dr Wee said if a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) needs to be called, it has to be done as the allegations are serious and the amount involved is likely to be in the region of tens of billions of ringgit.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced the cancellation of the three projects at the end of his five-day visit to China as it only added to Malaysia's debts.

He said China's leaders understood Malaysia's plight and their responses were positive.
