KUALA LUMPUR: City police have refuted allegations that its personnel were involved in assaulting a car repossessor here.

City police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said he was aware of a viral video clip on social media depicting several men in an altercation with the car repossessor.

"The incident occurred at around 4.30pm on Aug 20 in Cheras.

"The video shows two men wearing partial uniforms arriving at the scene in a silver Proton Preve before beating the man," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 21).

"The three men are not police personnel and the Proton Preve they were travelling in is not a police vehicle.

"We have classified the case as possessing weapons at a riot," he said, adding that police take measures to ensure its personnel always act appropriately.

He added that they would not hesitate to take action against anyone who tainted the image of the police force.

"We urge the public not to easily believe everything they read and see on social media.

Comm Mazlan also urged anyone with information on the case to contact Insp Muhamad Khairil Fadzli A. Razak at 019-231 1040 or 03-9205 0222.
