GEORGE TOWN: Just hours after a double murder shocked Penang, a second killing jolted the island – this one involving a wife who allegedly stabbed her husband to death at a homestay in Gat Lebuh Chulia.

Suriya Kanchaiyaphum, 36, was stabbed by his 38-year-old Thai wife in the kitchen of the homestay following a quarrel last night.

Police were alerted to the incident at about 10.20pm and arrived at the scene minutes later.

“An investigation found that the couple had a fight due to financial problems, which then led to the wife stabbing her husband.

“We have detained the wife. (We also) recovered the murder weapon at the scene,” said Northeast District deputy police chief Superintendent V. Saravanan.

Fourteen other occupants of the homestay were brought to the Northeast District Police Headquarters for assistance in the investigation.

The woman has been remanded for 14 days under the Immigration Act and the case is being investigated under Section 302 for murder.

Just hours earlier, two men were found stabbed to death in their rented room at Jalan Argyll here.

One of the deceased was identified as Sarbudeen Shikander, 72; while the identity of the second man is being ascertained.

Both men were Malaysians who worked as parking attendants.

Two Myanmar men who were at the scene, and whose shirts were stained with blood, are believed to have murdered the duo.

Neither man fled the scene, as they were high on drugs.

They were immediately detained to assist in the investigation.

GEORGE TOWN: Two men were found stabbed to death in their rented room at Jalan Argyll here, this afternoon.

One of the deceased was identified as Sarbudeen Shikander, 72; while the identity of the second man is being ascertained.

Both men were Malaysians who worked as parking attendants.

“The victims were stabbed to death, believed to be with scissors. There were at least five stab wounds on each victim,” said northeast district deputy police chief Superintendent V. Saravanan.

He said police were alerted to the incident at 6.20pm. Upon arriving at the scene, they found two Myanmar men, in their 30s, whose shirts were stained with blood.

It is believed that they did not flee the room as they were high on drugs.

Both men were immediately detained to assist in the investigation.

“We have yet to establish the motive. It could be jealousy or other reasons. But we cannot investigate yet because both suspects are still high on drugs,” Saravanan added.

Policemen are still at the scene as of 10.30pm and the case has been classified as murder
