PUTRAJAYA: The private jet belonging to fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low, will be brought back to Malaysia “as soon as it can fly”, said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Without committing to a time frame, the Prime Minister said the jet needs to be serviced and deemed airworthy first before it can be flown over to Malaysia.

“Jho Low’s jet will be brought here (Malaysia) as soon as we can make it fly.

“It has been grounded for a long time, and planes that do not fly very often need to be serviced and checked.

“When it can fly, we will bring it here,” said Dr Mahathir at a press conference Monday (Aug 13) after chairing a meeting of the Special Cabinet Committee on Anti-Corruption.

The Bombardier Global 5000 jet, estimated to be worth US$35mil (RM143mil), was allegedly bought by Low, using money embezzled from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

The jet is said to be currently in Singapore.

Last week, Low’s US$250mil (RM1.02bil) superyacht Equanimity was returned to Malaysia after it was impounded by authorities in Indonesia.
