PORT KLANG: In his close to two decades as a law practitioner in the shipping industry, it was the first time lawyer Jeremy Joseph had to take off his shoes before entering the US$250 million (RM1 billion) super yacht Equanimity after it docked at the Boustead Cruise Centre at 1pm today.
The 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) lawyer , who is part of a six-member team appointed by the Attorney-General’s Chambers, was one of the first to enter Equanimity as soon as it docked at the centre’s jetty upon arrival from Indonesia after a 20-hour journey.
“I have been on many expensive ships but this is my first time on an expensive yacht. I have arrested other yachts but never had to take off my shoes before stepping into the ship. This is interesting as it is a US$250 million yacht, it is significant,” he said.
Joseph described Equanimity as ostentatious, beautiful, very well-maintained with marble, leather and timber furnishing, just as he expected of a classy yacht.
“We are not allowed to wear shoes and we have to put on shoe covers in order to protect (the flooring),” he said after being on the yacht for two-and-a-half-hours.”
He said preparing an inventory would take some time to be completed.
He said all that was done today was the execution of the warrant of arrest.
The team had also spoken to the captain of the ship.
Joseph said he was honoured to be part of an action to bring justice to the whole situation involving Equanimity. — Reports by Iskandar Shah Mohamed, Dawn Chan, Hafidzul Hilmi Mohd Noor and Seri Nor Nadiah Koris
