Uber driver who allegedly molested woman remanded
GEORGE TOWN: An Uber driver who allegedly molested a Vietnamese woman and was subsequently beaten up by her husband and his friends has been remanded for four days.
The woman's husband and two of his two friends were also remanded to allow for investigations.
The remand order was issued by deputy registrar Ahmad Tajudin Zain on Thursday and will expire on June 11.
Police are investigating the case under Section 354/377D of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage a person's modesty and Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons.
The driver was beaten up by about 10 people in the incident on Wednesday.
The woman claimed that she was in the car on Tuesday when the driver took his pants off and exposed his private parts to her before pulling her hand to his crotch.
She arrived home and told her husband about the incident.
On Wednesday, the husband located the driver and confronted the latter before beating him up.
