Having previously admitted that she’d be quite happy for viewers to complain about her Britain’s Got Talent wardrobe, it seems Amanda Holden may have got her wish.
A spokesman for the media watchdog confirmed the number of complaints to metro.co.uk and added: ‘We will assess these complaints before deciding whether or not to investigate.Because that ultra low-cut, backless dress she wore during Thursday’s semi-final has sparked 216 complaints to Ofcom, following suggestions it was a bit too risque for a family show.
By contrast, Ofcom received 13 complaints about the controversial gang rape scene in Thursday’s Coronation Street, which aired at 9pm in the break between the BGT semi-final and results.
Amanda showed off the green dress, by designed Julien McDonald, on Twitter as the semi-final aired – saying she was ‘flattered’ to be wearing it.
It even spawned a few jokes from presenters Ant and Dec – who quipped: ‘Look what Amanda’s wearing – or what she isn’t wearing,’ just moment after she had taken to the stage.
Meanwhile David Walliams couldn’t resist a cheeky comment at his fellow judge’s expense either, as he told choir Angelicus Celtus: ‘It was very classy…none of you are wearing a really inappropriate low-cut top.’
Still, it does sound as though the 46-year-old was well prepared for any outrage – previously saying she hoped her outfits would ruffle a few feathers.
‘Will people be complaining to Ofcom? I hope so, I really hope so,’ she said recently about her clothing choices.
‘I really haven’t done my job properly if they aren’t.’
Britain’s Got Talent continues with the last semi-final of the week on Friday evening on ITV at 7.30pm.
