PETALING JAYA: An AirAsia X flight from Taipei to Kuala Lumpur encountered severe turbulence, leaving five passengers injured.
In a statement, the airline said Flight D7377 with 291 passengers and 11 crew members on board, encountered the turbulence mid-flight on Thursday.
“The aircraft landed safely at KLIA2 at 4.30pm.
“Five injured passengers were treated by paramedics at the airport upon landing.
“All other passengers were attended to by the ground staff and given necessary assistance,” said the statement.
Yesterday, footage of the incident taken on board the plane went viral on WhatsApp.
The video shows a stewardess lying on the floor amid strewn food trays while a steward is seen trying to prevent several meal carts in the galley area from rolling away .
A woman can be heard crying while several voices are heard repeatedly saying “don’t move”.
Another stewardess is seen telling everyone to calm down.
“Everything is going to be okay,” she repeats.
After a few seconds, other crew members on the floor are seen getting into their seats before the footage ends.
